While a few showers or storms will remain possible this morning and today, the main focus will be tonight when a strong cold front moves across the area with a round of storms.   A few of the storms may be strong to near severe across southern Kansas and extreme northern OK.   The cooler air will remain this weekend and for most of next week with some additional storm chances by midweek.

WARN Interactive Radar

A weak mid-level short wave is ejecting to our northeast this morning but will continue to produce some scattered showers and thunder for the next few hours across southern and eastern OK.   Like yesterday, the coverage is expected to remain low.   Temperatures this morning in the lower 70s will move into the mid or upper 80s to lower 90s for daytime highs along with southeast winds at 15 mph.   A few sun breaks will be possible but mostly cloudy conditions should prevail.

Weather Alerts

Tonight a broad trough in the atmosphere will move across the central plains while dragging a surface front across southwestern Kansas this afternoon and into northern OK sometime tonight through early Saturday morning.   A line of storm activity is likely to occur along and behind this feature with precipitation spreading southeast during the late evening and Saturday pre-dawn hours.   Some heavy rainfall will be possible with the round of storms.  There remains a chance that some locations could miss out on the late night round.

The timing of the system supports the window of chance from 11pm tonight through 7am Saturday morning but some model data is much faster with the system.   A few runs bring the line near the metro by 8pm tonight.   Regardless, remain aware of this potential later tonight through pre-dawn Saturday.    After the early morning hours, the front will be moving southeast of the metro taking most of the active weather also southward.   A few additional showers or storms may redevelop by midday or early afternoon southeast of the metro but most locations (after the early morning hours) will remain dry for the Saturday period.

Sunday northeast winds along with drier air will move from southwestern Missouri into northern OK.   The clouds will have scattered and mostly sunny and pleasant conditions should exist for most of the day with lows in the lower to mid-60s and highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Next week the pattern will change slightly with stronger upper level support near the state Tuesday and Wednesday with a chance of storms through the end of the week, some of which, may be strong to severe.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
