Tulsa Public Schools released statement Saturday after a shooting at a Tulsa high school Friday evening during a football game.

The district said it saddened about the incident at McLain High School on North Peoria and will review the school district's security plans and procedures:

We are deeply concerned and saddened by the senseless act of violence that took place during the football game at McLain High School on Friday evening. Our students need and deserve to feel safe in their schools and communities, and we are committed to doing all that we can to make this aspiration a reality.

During Friday’s game, a 9th grade student from McLain shot and wounded an 8th grade student, also from McLain. The victim was transported to the hospital by EMSA and is in good condition at this time.

The Tulsa Police Department is leading the investigation into this incident and Tulsa Public Schools will provide any necessary supports, resources, or information to aide this effort.

The safety of our students is a priority for the district, and Friday’s game was fully staffed with six Campus Police officers and two Tulsa Police officers on site. We are carefully reviewing our security plans and procedures for all district athletic events to ensure that Tulsa high school sports fans can support our student athletes and teams in a secure and safe environment.

We will work with the team at McLain to ensure that our students have access to any supports they might need when they return to school next week. We are keeping the families of all involved in our thoughts and prayers.

Police said a juvenile student was arrested after a shooting on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill.  Officers said it happened during a disturbance in the stands at McLain High School.  The victim, who was wounded, was also a student.
