Surge of Holiday Summer Heat Across Oklahoma

After those cool, fall-like mornings we enjoyed over the weekend, get ready for a surge back to summer again!

After those cool, fall-like mornings we enjoyed over the weekend, get ready for a surge back to summer again!

We've returned to more noticeable humidity this morning, which also means much more mild morning temperatures not only this morning, but throughout the upcoming week.

You'll notice that air feeling quite a bit muggier during the day for any Labor Day outdoor plans.

More sunshine today and a steady south wind will allow temperatures to climb into the low to mid 90s today, but with that noticeably muggier air in place those heat index values will likely push above 100 during the afternoon hours.

Those south winds gusting over 20 miles per hour at times should keep rafts moving fairly nicely along the Arkansas River today for the Great Raft Race, but rafters and spectators will need to keep the sunscreen handy too, and please keep hydrated!

Tuesday morning will see the warm and humid trend continue will lows mainly in the low to mid 70s and highs back in the mid 90s with heat index values again over 100.

It wouldn't be completely out of the question for an isolated storm to "pop-up" across far southeastern Oklahoma the next few days, but the overall chances are less than 10 percent.

Expect the heat and humidity to hold pretty firm for most of the week with several afternoons of heat index values at or above 100, before an approaching front starts to bring better rain chances and eventually a bit of a cool-down too by the end of the week and into the upcoming weekend.
