We’re looking at another very warm and muggy day with highs in the mid-90s.   Temp heat index values will be near 97 to 103 today in some locations depending upon how the local dew points mix down through the afternoon.   Gusty south winds from 15 to 25 mph will be likely both today and tomorrow, but a southwesterly component to the wind Wednesday may bump the temp up a degree or two.   We’re tracking increasing rain and storm chances for some locations over the next few days with the first chance arriving Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

WARN Interactive Radar

A mid-level ridge of high pressure is currently centered upon most of the state this morning and should remain for most of tomorrow before sliding southeast in response to a strong upper level trough that will move across the central plains Friday into Saturday.    This will essentially change our pattern and bring some rain and storm chances back to the area.

The 1st chance will arrive Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with higher locations along and north of the highway 412 corridor.   The 2nd chance will stay along the northern OK and southern Kansas state line Thursday night into Friday and the 3rd will bring a seasonally strong front across the state late Friday night into Saturday morning.   Its’s this 3rd chance that currently represents the highest opportunity for most locations regarding potential rainfall.   The air mass will change beyond this boundary with noticeable drier air arriving across the state Saturday with highs dropping into the lower 80s.   Unfortunately, Sunday the south winds will return at the next system organizes across the western U.S. and low level moisture will quickly bring warm and muggy conditions back to the area Sunday into Monday before another front arrives Tuesday of next week.

Weather Alerts

Temperatures today should be very much like yesterday with highs around 96 for the metro and lower to mid-90s also across most of eastern OK.   A few clouds will continue to be likely by midday to afternoon across northeastern OK with some clouds spreading into southeastern OK this morning.   A few widely spaced showers or storms will be possible today but mostly across extreme southeastern OK and western Arkansas.
