We are tracking a few showers this morning across far northern Oklahoma and a couple of thunderstorms across part of southern Kansas.

Temperatures this morning are currently in the upper seventies and lower 80s and will move back into the lower 90s today along with south winds at 10 to 15 mph and muggy conditions. A few additional showers and storms will continue to be a possibility later this afternoon and early evening along and North of Highway 412. A few of these may be strong to severe but the better chances will remain in southern Kansas.

WARN Interactive Radar

Overnight through early tomorrow morning another chance for a few showers and storms will remain along the Oklahoma and Kansas state line area, before the storm chances start to slide to the north and east.  But the main focus for thunderstorm activity will continue to be late Friday night into early Saturday morning as a strong cold front approaches and clears the area.

The upper air flow is bringing a weak disturbance across the central plains this morning and another disturbance will arrive late tonight through early tomorrow morning. But the main upper air flow will bring a storm system across the Central High Plains over the next 24 to 36 hours. This will drive a strong surface cold front southward by Friday afternoon and Friday night with a good opportunity for rain and storms for part of the state.   Before this happens temperatures will remain warm with muggy conditions across the entire state.

Sometime late Friday night, more than likely after most Friday Night Football games wrap up, the front will enter our area and bring a line of showers and storms across part of northern Oklahoma.   Some of the rain could be locally heavy early Saturday morning before the storm system will rapidly clear northern Oklahoma.  Additional showers and storms may continue across southeastern Oklahoma through the early morning hours.   Dry air will rapidly filter in across Northern Oklahoma Saturday midday allowing clouds to clear by midday to afternoon.   Dry air will also bring pleasant conditions with daytime highs Saturday in the upper 70s or lower eighties along with north winds of 10 to 15 mph.   Late Saturday night the presence of clear sky, dry air, and light wind will allow temperatures to drop into the mid or upper 50s. Daytime highs Sunday will top out in the mid or upper 80s along with the return of east or southeast winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour.

We may experience a minor warm up Monday with readings back in the upper 80s or lower 90s, but another strong fall out front will arrive either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week with enhanced storm chances followed by another noticeable cool down.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
