One of Oklahoma's own died when terrorists hit the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.  Family and friends of Electronics Technician 2nd Class Brian Moss held a golf tournament to raise money for a scholarship in his name.

Born and raised in Sperry, Moss joined the Navy in 1990.

He had a number of assignments before being sent to the Pentagon.

The golf tournament provides scholarships to Sperry and Skiatook students. Organizers say the scholarship is awarded to students who likely wouldn't be able to continue their education without the help.

"A lot of them are not college-bound students, so this scholarship goes into technical schools and training school," said Pat Moss, Brian's mother.

"What they see and the life they want - they have the ability to go out and get it."

They also use the day to remember the sacrifices veterans made to protect this and future generations, she said.
