Just after 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon Tulsa Fire got a 911 call for a truck on fire on Interstate 44, right by Highway 75.

A truck smashed through a guardrail, fell down onto the I-44 access road then bursts into flames; amazingly, no one was seriously injured.

Tulsa fire district chief, Kelly Kaiser, said, "We had a plume of smoke, so we knew we had something on fire. We just didn't know what it was."

When crews arrived they found a truck had smashed through the guardrail of a bridge while driving south on Highway 75.

Kaiser said, "According to the tracks, it looks like he came off and dropped down below."

Leaving a trail of debris before the truck finally came to rest on an embankment.

"Come off of 75 onto I-44 where it landed right here on the service road," Kaiser said.

Thick black smoke filled the air, and people passing by took video as the flames grew.

Kaiser said the driver was able to escape.

"Truck driver is by himself, and just got out right as it had engulfed in flames according to his testimony," he said.

The district chief said the driver had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"Our main concern was to get him medical treatment, and we assisted him to the EMSA unit," Kaiser said.

About 30 seconds after the crash, Kaiser said two other cars collided on Highway 75. No one was injured but one of the drivers left the scene.

Both Highway 75 and I-44 were blocked for hours in all directions following the crash as crews investigated the scene.

Officials don't know what caused the driver to lose control. They say it doesn't appear there was anything on the road, nor does it look like anything hit his truck.
