The Muskogee Roughers look like a completely different team this year, now 4-0 after three straight 3-7 campaigns.

But head coach Rafe Watkins says that record last year was deceiving and points to a tough overtime loss to Bixby as proof.

"Last year was 3-7, but it was a lot closer to being 7-3,” said Watkins. “We were ahead in five of the seven games we lost. We were close; we just didn't get it done. This year, we're getting it done."

The Roughers get another chance to knock off the Spartans Friday night in our Wendy's Game of the Week.

"Our kids have all that in the back of their minds,” said Watkins. “There's no revenge factor. It's just that we know we're playing a very, very good football team. And for us to be able to compete with them, we're going to have to play our very best as well."

This is already rarified air for the Muskogee football program, so now, with a chance for win game number five to start the year. It's homecoming and the two-time defending state champs in town. Don't expect many empty seats at the Indian Bowl.

Muskogee boasts 6’2” Kamren Curl on both sides of the ball. The Texas Tech commit is enjoying his senior year.

"Winning is fun,” said Curl. “We didn't really have that much fun last year, and the first game, when we won, it was just like, a good atmosphere."

Coach Watkins says Curl is a great team leader.

"He means a great deal for our team, and plus, not to mention his leadership that he gives to this team."

Curl hopes to lead his team to victory Friday night.
