We had some spring-like weather yesterday with tornado watches and some severe thunderstorm warnings across the state. Due to the time limits for some inner-office work flow issues, I’ll not post anything this morning regarding the storms last night.  I’ll also post updated information regarding Hurricane Matthew on my Facebook pages around 6 a.m.

An outflow boundary is located across part of northern OK this morning with some leftover storms along this feature moving southeast. A few strong to severe storms may continue through the pre-dawn hours across far southern OK but should quickly weaken around or before sunrise. This boundary will act as a quasi-warm front later this afternoon as it slowly moves northeast this evening with a chance for a few scattered thunderstorms. One or two of these storms may also be strong to severe Wednesday late evening.

WARN Interactive Radar

After the Thursday morning period, our attention turns to the northwest where a strong cold front will sweep across the state late Thursday night into pre-dawn Friday with a line of showers and storms likely for many locations. The low level moisture combined with the anticipated wind field aloft could support a few strong to severe storms with damaging winds the main threat issue. This threat will also quickly end pre-dawn Friday as the activity begins to undercut the updrafts as the front surges ahead of the activity.

Temperatures today will continue to be summer-like with highs near 90 along with humid conditions and south winds at 10 to 20 mph. The warm weather also continues Thursday with highs in the upper 80s but will cool into the upper 60s Friday behind the departing storm system along with north winds at 10 to 25 mph. The clouds may stick around for most of Friday before clearing later in the afternoon and evening hours. This means Friday night football games will be chilly with games starting in the 60s and ending in the 50s.

The weekend pattern appears more like fall again with lows in the mid to upper 40s and highs in the lower 70s Saturday and into the mid or upper 70s Sunday.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
