The City of Tulsa is celebrating National Community Planning Month during the month of October.

To celebrate planning in our community, the City of Tulsa's Planning and Development Department has activities centered around this year's theme, "Civic Engagement."

It may not sound exciting but organizers helped make it fun for the people who turned out Wednesday at Guthrie Green.

Many used boxes to create their ideal community, showing places to live, work, shop and eat.

The idea is get public input and show how planning shapes a community.

"We don't want to just come into a place and do something, and then years later, we find out - well, that wasn't the greatest idea.  So it's always good to ask what people think," said Joel Hensley, City Of Tulsa Planner.

If you missed the fun, the city will host more events at Guthrie Green on October 19

October is designated as National Community Planning Month by the American Planning Association as a way to highlight the role of planners and planning in each community.

This year's theme acknowledges that thoughtful local planning cannot happen without meaningful engagement with the public, elected officials and key leaders in our community.
