Families from all over Muskogee got a chance to meet the men and women who protect them.

Meet and greets are important for strengthening community relations. The Muskogee Police Department is doing it along with the fire department, bringing the cars out getting the kids and families a chance to interact.

Muskogee resident Joseph Fuller wants to make sure his grandson knows at a young age the police are here to help.

“It's nice to see this out here,” said Fuller. “Every chance they get, they should try and do that."

Officers like Danny Spears already have a following. Spears is doing his best to "humanize the badge. Spears has been a police officer for more than two decades, and the veteran officer is now focused on building trust and relationships on his beat.

My passion now is just to make me, make this [police badge] and community all on the same team," said Spears.

And it's not hard to do.

“When loving people is your job every day is pay day," stated Spears.
