Tulsa police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 1:00 p.m. at a duplex off east 13th and 73rd East Avenue.

Tulsa homicide detectives are looking for Joseph Johnson to talk to about the crime. They believe he is driving a red Chevy Tahoe with the Oklahoma license plate 660-PDS.

Police said a man and two women were standing outside a duplex when another man came up and shot the male victim.

Ella Martinez lives just across the street from where the shooting happened.

"I don't think I'm going to let my kids come outside after this," she said.

Witnesses who live there said they believe the shooting happened during a car deal. They said the victim was trying to sell a car when things when south, and the man he was trying to sell it to pulled out a gun.

Martinez said, "I mean people around the neighborhood would get into it with each other, but nothing like this."

Police said an officer happened to be driving down the street shortly after the shooting when someone flagged him down for help.

"It was just one of those coincidence things. He just happened to be driving through the area when somebody said, ‘Hey, there's just been a shooting here.’ It happens all the, well, not all the time, but happens more frequently than people think," Captain Steve Odom said.

Tulsa police could be seen talking to witnesses on the scene Monday. They said because of the amount of people who live in the area, they were able to track down several witnesses.

And while Martinez said she didn't see what happened, she's glad her kids weren't home.

"I'm glad they were all in school and they locked the school down. I'm grateful for that," she said.

Now, she said she may be looking for somewhere else to live.

This is Tulsa's 58th homicide of the year,

Johnson is described as a 20-year-old black male around 5-feet-10-inches tall and 200 pounds.

If you know where Johnson might be, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
