A strong cold front is moving across the area today and will bring cooler air to northern Oklahoma by midday to afternoon.   A few showers or storms will remain possible this morning through midday along and behind the boundary across southeastern Kansas and part of northeastern OK.   Temperatures will begin dropping by midday to afternoon across the area.  The metro may hit the upper 70s with lower 80s across southern OK but will drop into the upper 50s as the front passes this afternoon along with strong north winds at 15 to 30 mph.

WARN Interactive Radar

A few showers and storms are noted this morning across part of NE OK and Southeastern Kansas as the front moves across this area.   A few of these showers and storms may migrate near the metro between now and midday as the front nears the Tulsa metro.   A few strong to severe storms will remain possible early this morning as a mid-level disturbance also brushes part of the area.   The north winds will be increasing for the midday to afternoon as the front moves across southeastern OK.   The cooler air will stick around tonight into Thursday with morning lows in the upper 40s and Thursday afternoon highs in the lower to mid-60s and north winds at 10 to 15 mph.

Weather Alerts

The next upper level system will near the state late Thursday night into Friday and should spread showers and storms near the area during this period.  The better like hood still appears pre-dawn Friday but we’ll start the chances for Thursday night.   The better location appears to be south of the metro but we have enough support in the data to keep a decent pop for the Tulsa area Friday morning.    If the current timing holds, this wave will be exiting the eastern OK region by midday to late afternoon Friday.   Most of the high school football games should be rain free.

Another stronger upper level wave will drop down across the pacific northwest Friday into the weekend and our surface pressures will begin falling.   The result will be increasing south winds Friday into this weekend along with lows in the 50s and 60s.  Highs will be moving into the mid to upper 80s this weekend with partly cloudy conditions.   We’ll experience more late summer weather this weekend into early next week.

We are tracking the potential for another system nearing the area Saturday night into Sunday but the confidence on this solution remains low.   We’ll keep a chance for a few storms for this period but I would encourage you to check back often for updates for this part of the forecast.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
