We’re back to fall weather today as the strong cold front that moved across the area yesterday has brought cool air and north winds back to the state.   Temperatures this morning will start in the upper 40s and lower 50s.   We’ll move into the lower 60s for afternoon highs with mostly cloudy conditions.   A weak system will near the area this afternoon and evening with a few showers or storms possible through Friday morning.   This system will leave Friday and we’re anticipating a big warm-up this weekend with temperatures nearing 90 Monday afternoon.

Weather Alerts

The cool down was impressive yesterday midday into the afternoon!   We did hit the lower to mid-70s from the metro southward before the chilly air invaded the region and the strong gusty winds ushered in a good taste of fall weather.   Southeastern OK hit the mid-80s before the chilly weather arrived late yesterday afternoon and evening.

Today a fast moving yet weak disturbance will slide across the state with a few showers and storms developing as the font remains south of our immediate area.  Temps will remain cool with most spots staying in the 50s at midday and into the lower 60s this afternoon.   This boundary to our south now may begin lifting northward later tonight into Friday morning, but it may be delayed until Friday afternoon or evening before it begins retreating across the state.   This means our rain chances will remain tonight into pre-dawn but may be more focused south of the metro.   We’re still in the running for the Tulsa area through Friday morning.   Friday afternoon highs will stay in the lower to mid-70s.

As the weak wave departs at midday Friday, some clearing may occur later in the afternoon as southeast winds develop when the boundary begins lifting northward by Friday evening.   This will rapidly occur as a powerful upper level trough begins moving across the Pacific northwest Friday into the weekend causing falling pressures across the Lee of the Rockies.   Our winds will quickly return from the southeast and temperatures will respond with a robust warm-up in the weekend with morning lows in the 50s and 60s.   This weekend’s high temperatures will hit the mid or even upper 80s with breezy to windy conditions.

WARN Interactive Radar

Saturday evening into Sunday a fast moving short wave may impact part of northern OK and southern Kansas with a few showers or storms.   At this point we’re keeping the pop out of the forecast but as stated here all week, the confidence in this solution remains low.

Monday into Tuesday we should experience gusty south winds and very warm temperatures.   Highs Monday may reach the 90 mark across eastern OK but another front will move across the area around Wednesday with north winds and a noticeable, yet minor drop in temperatures with highs in the mid-70s.   A stronger system may impact part of the state by late next week.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
