The seven Islamic mosques in Oklahoma opened their doors to visitors Sunday in an effort to dispel common myths about the Islamic faith.
They said hate crimes against the Islamic community have risen dramatically over the last few years.
That's why Sunday they asked people to stop by, visit with them, see how prayers are performed and have their questions answered.
"Unfortunately, people think that we are alien, or we're different. And this way they are able to understand that we're just like anybody else," said Aliye Shimi with the Islamic Society of Tulsa.
They said what they want people to understand is that the Muslims in Tulsa are their neighbors, friends, and coworkers.
