OSBI Identifies Man Shot By Deputy In Sapulpa

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Creek County.

A deputy shot 23-year-old Tyler Shepard after responding to multiple 911 calls.

They say just after 1:00 p.m. when multiple people in the 6100 block of South 45th West Avenue in Creek County called 911 to report hearing gunfire.

Kevin Garrett with OSBI said, "They had approximately three 911 calls where there were some gunshots that were fired."

Neighbor Breanna Dishman said she wasn’t home at that time, but said her house cleaner was.

"She hit the ground and went to go get our shotgun - she was on the kitchen floor with the shotgun," she said.

The house cleaner was not hurt.

A short time later, a Creek County deputy arrived on scene and came into contact with Shepard, which ended with him being shot and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

OSBI took over the investigation at Creek County's request but isn’t giving details about what led to the deputy shooting Shepard.

According to neighbors, the 23 year old has parents who live on the block.

"There has been a lot of police sightings or police in the neighborhood recently, within the past few weeks," neighbor Charity Weigant said.

Weigant said in the nine months she's lived there, she has never heard any gunshots in the area.

“Everybody here is really nice, so it’s very shocking,” she said. “This neighborhood is normally really quiet, except for, you know, this house across the street, which is ultimately where it happened."

Early reports indicate police were looking for a small black car that might have left the scene before police arrived, OSBI would not confirm if they still are.

"There might be a vehicle that is of interest at this point," Garrett said.

No charges have been filed yet and there are still lots of questions to be answered.

OSBI said it will release more information as soon as it can.
