A south Tulsa fire has left two elderly women without homes. The fire broke out sometime Friday morning at the Royal Oaks apartment near 61st and Lewis.

One of the victims said she lost many of her things, but she's going to be okay.

Some of the fire victims' belonging are salvageable, but firefighters say neither of the apartments are livable.

Despite coming home to flames shooting from the awning of her apartment, fire victim June Thompson is staying positive.

“Oh I'm gonna live until I get to be 100, honey,” she said. “Just gonna rebuild again…It’s the worst thing that probably ever happened to me, but I'll be all right.”

Much of her apartment is now charred.

Her neighbors, another elderly woman and her son, have heavy smoke and water damage in their unit.

Firefighters spent hours Friday sawing through the roof, inspecting the building from top to bottom to figure out what happened.

District Chief John Steiner with the Tulsa Fire Department said, “This origin is just not obvious.”

Steiner said there are some strange things about the fire, but investigators don't believe it's suspicious.

“It's just a tough one,” he said.

The district chief said a fire burned upstairs and downstairs but investigators haven't found where, or if, the two fires joined together.

“Things just aren't being very textbook; one and one's not really adding up to two, some things aren't making sense to them,” Steiner said.

But, the district chief said investigators will keep after it.

“I can assure you the two guys here are really good. If it can be solved, they'll figure it out,” he said.

Thompson figures, even though she's lost a lot, she still has a lot, too – most importantly, her life.

“All this stuff don't mean nothing to me right now,” she said. “I'm safe. I got my two cars, I'll be alright.”

Volunteers with the Red Cross have been out to help the fire victims. The victims said they will be staying with family for now.
