Certainly felt a little more like Fall today, but we were still well above normal for this time of year.  Notice the max/min temperatures around the state courtesy of the OK Mesonet.  Although it looks like we are finished with the 80s we had to start the month, keep in mind that our normal max/min for Tulsa on this date is 67/44 and so far today we have recorded 76/57.

At least drier air has moved into the state during the day today which will allow for a cooler start to our Saturday morning, but still warmer than normal.  Look for overnight lows to drop into the lower 50s for the most part along with a light E/NE breeze and with some lingering high level cirrus clouds.

Those high level cirrus clouds will also play a role in our daytime highs this weekend with afternoon temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to the lower 70s.  The source of those high clouds is a disturbance now located in the Southern Rockies as you can see on the upper level wind map.  This is at the 500 mb level or about 18,000’ up.  The first map shows its position as of this afternoon and the second one shows what is forecast to take place by Monday afternoon.  As you can see, the closed circulation now located in Arizona is forecast to slowly lift out to the NE and weaken considerably.  However, that system will provide us with a SW wind flow aloft and lots of high level clouds for the weekend.

Then, as the system moves overhead in its weakened state early next week, that will be our next best chance of rain and showers.  As you can see on our forecast page, Monday looks to be the most likely time for rain with some lingering showers possible into the day Tuesday.

The clouds and scattered showers will also make for a shorter thermometer for Monday and perhaps Tuesday as well.  Also, another weak frontal boundary looks to arrive during the day Tuesday followed by a more E/NE wind as a general rule through the rest of the week.  That will keep temperatures cooler than we have been, but even those numbers are still above normal for this time of year.  Not only that, but the pattern is not particularly supportive of any additional rain chances going into the latter part of next week or that weekend.

Beyond that, there is still no sign of any really chilly air coming this way so above normal temperatures look to persist into the 8-14 day time period.  This would suggest daytime highs generally in the upper 60s to lower 70s as our normal highs by then are in the low-mid 60s.  Having said that, there are some indications that we may see some much colder air finally moving this way around the Thanksgiving time frame. Will keep a close eye on that possibility in the coming days.  Unfortunately, the chances for a good, soaking rain still looks to be minimal, at least through the 8-14 day time period.
