Henryetta Woman Dies After Man Shoots Her In Face, Police Say
HENRYETTA, Oklahoma - A Henryetta woman died at a hospital Saturday night after she was shot in the face, and the man who shot her was arrested and booked into Okmulgee County Jail for first-degree murder, Henryetta police said.
Jessie James Scott, 33, of Henryetta, was arrested Sunday on the murder complaint, possession of a controlled substance and felony possession of a firearm, police said.
The victim, Jima Burroughs, was awake and alert when HPD arrived, but she was obviously in need of medical attention, Henryetta police said.
Burroughs was transported immediately to the Henryetta hospital, but she died soon after.
Henryetta police said they spoke with several people and developed a person of interest. By early Sunday, investigators began to actively search for Scott.
Police said they went to several locations in Henryetta to search for Scott, but always were "one step behind Scott."
Police located Scott at a family member's house in Schulter, Oklahoma at about 8 p.m. Sunday, where they arrested him.
Henryetta police didn't have information available on a possible motive for the shooting.
