The day has arrived: first chance for seeing some light wintry precipitation here in Green Country. Areas of light snow were found on radar this morning north of Tulsa but with a layer of dry air at the surface, snowflakes had a very hard time making it down to the ground. In most locations, they didn’t even get close.

The dry layer will make progress towards saturation as we get into the early afternoon. We should see the beginning of precipitation making it to surface around lunch time or shortly after, north of the metro.

Keep in mind this will be very light precipitation. Accumulations are not expected in most locations. One or two light snow bands could set up with up to half an inch possible on grassy surfaces.

Colder air will be surging in after the noon hour today so our day time highs will occur earlier in the afternoon. Temperatures will continue to fall over the course of the afternoon. Light snow will be possible north of the metro through late morning and early afternoon before moving south with the colder air.

More of a wintry mix with freezing drizzle and flurries mixed in will be more likely for the metro until the middle of the afternoon. The transition zone between rain and wintry precipitation will be able to make it all the way south to I-40 this evening. Even some snow flurries will be possible just south of the I-40 corridor.

North of the metro still looks to be the most likely place. Watch those bridges and overpasses for slick spots once precipitation starts to fall and temperatures drop in your location.

Temperatures will continue to drop overnight with a bitter cold morning ahead. Wind chill values will dip into the single digits.

Protecting pipes would not be a bad idea. Don’t forget about your pets tonight. Make sure small pets are brought inside and outdoor pets have a warm and dry shelter. Fresh food and water are a must. Be prepared for a repeat Friday morning with very cold conditions.
