Some of the coldest air of the late fall and early winter season is being experienced this morning with many locations reporting lows in the lower to mid-teens.  Single digits will be possible in the sheltered valley locations of eastern OK before temperatures move into the mid or upper 30s this afternoon along with some sunshine and light winds.

We’re tracking two fronts.  The first one will arrive Sunday evening with a chance for some spotty showers or drizzle in a few spots.   The second front will arrive sometime Tuesday or Tuesday night with another surge of cold air and a low chance of light precipitation.   A third front may arrive by late next weekend with another surge of cold arctic air.

Weather Alerts

A surface ridge of high pressure is moving east of the state this morning and east to southeast winds will return later today around 10 mph in speed along with mostly sunny conditions.   A fast-moving upper level disturbance will eject across the inter mountain region into the central plains Saturday into Sunday with a surface area of low pressure deepening across southeastern Colorado or western Kansas Saturday.   This will cause south winds to increase speeds from 20 to near 35 mph by Saturday midday to afternoon along with partly cloudy conditions.   A surface front will cross the area Sunday afternoon or evening and may stall across southern OK by the evening hours.   Warm moist air will attempt to move up and over part of the front across eastern OK and result in a few showers or some spotty showers both ahead and behind the boundary.   Any precipitation is expected to remain very light.  This boundary may briefly retreat northward Monday morning to midday with temps moving into the 50s during the afternoon.

The next front arrives either Tuesday or Tuesday night with a noticeably colder air mass Tuesday night into Wednesday.   The data, at times, has presented some light snow showers (post frontal) across southern Kansas and southwestern Missouri.   Our forecast will keep only a slight chance of precip with this system indicating that most folks will remain void of precip.

The cold air will stick around Wednesday and Thursday.

A quick return to south winds and moderating temperatures will occur next Friday with a stronger surge of arctic air a possibility by next weekend.

Thanks for reading the abbreviated version of the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
