Pryor Boutique Promotes Positive Body Image For All Women
PRYOR, Oklahoma - In 2016 curvy girls made a comeback in a big way. Beauty products and clothing lines are now promoting "real" women.
Also, for the first time, a "plus size" model made the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition.
A Green Country boutique it making sure all women know they're beautiful, too.
Tucked away on Adair Street is Pryor's newest women's boutique, Nanabelle's.
"I love it. Absolutely love it," said Pryor resident Kim Hunsaker.
Nanabelle's Boutique owner Jennie Marlin, 22, is one of the town's youngest shop owners.
"It's kind of something I thought we were missing in downtown, so I just wanted to bite the bullet and do it," Marlin said.
Marlin saved she saved her money and took a risk and opened her own business.
She opened the store in May to prove women don't have to be a certain size to look and feel good.
"I've obviously never been a small girl, but I've always wanted to be trendy," Marlin said.
So that's what she offers at Nanabelle's, the latest fashion trends for every woman.
"Seriously, it's real women," Marlin said. "That's what it is."
Regardless of shape or size.
"I just basically want to create a comfort zone that no matter what size you are, you can come in and feel like you're shopping like anyone else," Marlin said.
And that's what sets Nanabelle's apart from many other boutiques. It carries clothes in everything from a size small to 3XL.
The shop has been an instant success. Nanabelle's hasn't even been open nine months and already it's been named best women's clothing and best boutique in Mayes County.
The boutique is drawing in shoppers from towns far outside of the county as well.
"I actually have a few customers that drive from like an hour to two hours away to come shop every Saturday," Marlin said.
Jennie said her customers aren't just coming in for the cute clothes, but also to support the positive message for women she's built her business around.
"People want to rally behind you if they are behind what you stand for," Marlin said.
Nanabelle's is doing so well, Marlin is opening a second store in Coffeyville early next year.
