One Dead, One In Custody After Poteau Stabbing
POTEAU, Oklahoma - Police have arrested a LeFlore County man following a fatal stabbing late Tuesday.
He is identified as 35-year-old Harlan Ray Kelly of Shady Point.
Just before 10:30 p.m., KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith reports police were sent to a Poteau home near the 600 block of Page Street about a stabbing.
When they arrived, officers found 34-year-old John Claude Rye of Wister lying in the road outside the home with a chest wound. They said Rye was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police along with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation identified Harlan Kelly as a suspect in Rye's death. Kelly was located a short time later and arrested.
Investigators determined the stabbing was the result of an ongoing disagreement between the two men.
Kelly was booked in the the LeFlore County Detention Center on a first-degree murder complaint
