A group of Henryetta High School performing arts students are making sure the show goes on.

Budget cuts ended the annual musical about five years ago, but they were able to bring it back.

The actors are just days away from opening night.

Many of them have been waiting for this moment since middle school. But for a while, they thought it wouldn't happen. Budget cuts not only ended funding to pay for it all, it also limited the amount of time teachers and others could volunteer.

In about two months, the students were able to raise enough money to get what they needed to go on with the show. From there, they reached out to a Henryetta alumni who performs in new York.

The students say if the type of support they've seen in the last few months continues, the possibilities of what could come are endless.

“It gives us hope. It gives us so much hope,” said student actor MaKayla Baxter. “I think they are starting to see how passionate we are, and when people have passion it drives you to do more.”
