Sallisaw Police arrested a Sequoyah County jail inmate who escaped while on a work release assignment Wednesday.
Police told KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, Austin McCallie jumped out a city vehicle at around 11 a.m. and ran off.
A short time later, police got a call that a man in jail clothing had gotten into a 2003 Chevy pickup parked at a nearby Walmart. That truck then left, heading south on Highway 59.
Thursday morning, police spotted McCallie in the truck on Interstate 40 near Muldrow. They stopped it and returned him to the county jail.
