Woman Claims Former Tulsa County Deputy Sexually Abused Her Daughter

Josh Wood worked at the Tulsa County Sheriff's office for nearly three years.

He sat in jail for less than an hour this week, but it's the charges filed against him that are giving the victim's mother a small sense of relief.

Britany Bettis wants to share her story.

She's been fighting for almost a year to get charges filed against Wood, her daughter's father.

"I feel like her innocence has been robbed from her,” said Bettis.

Bettis said in the summer of 2016, DHS told her Wood had been accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in Wagoner County, a charge he has not been convicted of.

"I just, I don't get it,” she said. “It's just so sick."

She said two weeks after that visit from DHS, her brave five-year-old spoke up.

"My daughter disclosed to me that her dad had done yucky things to her,” added Bettis.

The arrest affidavit says he had sex with his daughter at his house, both in the shower, and in her "ballerina room."

"She's in counseling right now and she's disclosed some very disturbing stuff to her counselor," said Bettis.

No one answered when we stopped by to talk to Wood.

But Bettis is talking, and she wants anyone else in a similar situation to speak up.

"Probably a lot of children out there who are too scared to say anything,” she said. “And the emotional damage that gets done over this is, they'll carry this for the rest of their life."

Bettis says she and her daughter have a long road ahead.

"If she's gonna have to testify against her own dad, you know, I don't want her to have to do that," she stated.

She said if she can help someone else along the way, it will be worth sharing what happened.

While speaking to Wood's attorney on the phone late Friday afternoon, he said his client is innocent and said he has a report from a Tulsa doctor that says there are no signs of abuse on the little girl.

Wood also faces child pornography charges.
