Police have identified the body of a teenager found along an East Tulsa trail on Thursday.

Darrin Wilson, 16, was a student at East Central High School, and a former coach remembers Wilson as a great person and athlete.

Wilson's family is devastated so they just didn't have it in them to talk, but they are heartbroken.

And as police continue looking for the suspect, that pain digs even deeper.

After 16 short years, Darrin Wilson's life is over.

Someone killed him and left him on an isolated Tulsa trail last week, investigators said.

"When I found out Darrin was murdered, it was heartbreaking," said Wilson's former coach Marcus Choice.

Choice is Wilson's former track and football coach.

Before heading off to high school, Wilson was an athlete at Langston Academy.

"Very gifted young man, very gifted athlete. Never was disrespectful to the teachers here at Langston Academy. Always had a smile to light up the whole room," Choice said.

Choice describes Darrin's death as tragic and he said he doesn't have any answers for students who want to know why.

He said all they can do is pray and hope.

"It's tragic for the family to have to live with the death, and it's been more tragedy to live and know the person hasn't been brought to justice," he said.

Investigators said they've interviewed a lot of people.

But, haven't yet made an arrest. Investigators said they do know Wilson was with people four to six hours before police found his body.

Detectives specifically want to get in touch with whoever those people are.

"It's like an open wound until these people are brought to justice. And I believe once that wound is closed, then the healing can start," he said.

Choice said he wants his students to know to always watch your surroundings and know who your real friends are.

"You have to live everyday like it's your last," Choice said.

Because he didn't have life insurance, Darrin's family needs help paying for his funeral. A GoFundMe account has been set up for his family.
