They say all good things must come to an end, and after a long stretch of below normal temperatures, the “typical” August heat finally found us Saturday.

Settle in for a few days of sweltering heat across Green Country, but more relief is on the horizon.

Heat index values climbed to near the dangerous 110-degree territory across much of eastern Oklahoma Saturday, and unfortunately, we’ll repeat that performance Sunday.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for Sunday, so be careful with any outdoor activities and stay hydrated.

In addition to the heat, a few hit-or-miss storms also can’t be ruled out.

We’ll keep a slight chance of isolated storms going Saturday night and into Sunday. We’re only looking at a 10%-20% chance for any one location, but any storms that do develop could have very strong winds and locally heavy rain.

It’ll already be warm and muggy in the morning Sunday, with lows in the mid to upper 70s, and that warm of a start will allow us to heat up easily into the mid to upper 90s by the afternoon.

Again, with high humidity, it’ll feel more like the 105 to 110-degree range during the afternoon hours, so take it easy.

The highly anticipated solar eclipse arrives on Monday, and we continue to forecast reasonably good viewing conditions here in eastern Oklahoma. We may be dealing with more areas of clouds early in the day, but we expect partly to mostly sunny conditions by lunchtime and early afternoon as the eclipse reaches its peak here in Green Country.

There will be a very slight chance of rain, so we’ll continue to monitor that closely.

The typical August heat and humidity will continue into Tuesday, but another cold front looks to arrive by late Tuesday. This will usher in a better chance of storms by Tuesday night into Wednesday morning followed by another stretch of below normal temperatures.

We look to return to lows in the 60s and highs generally in the 80s by late in the week. So hang in there Green Country, that relief will be here before we know it.
