Glenpool Man Charged With 2 Counts Of Rape
GLENPOOL, Oklahoma - A 36-year-old Glenpool man was charged Monday with two counts of rape, according to an affidavit.
Eric Michael Covington faces charges of one count of first-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape for the incident that happened in April, the affidavit shows.
The victim told police that Covington gave her a sleeping pill at his Glenpool residence on April 18 and she awoke to him assaulting her, according to the police officer's report.
The victim said when she confronted Covington, he denied any wrongdoing and said she was, "making stuff up and she did not know what was going on because she was on 'sleeping pills,'" the affidavit shows.
Covington later tried to apologize to the victim by sending her text messages and admitted to the assault via text stating, 'he thought it was OK,' the officer wrote in the affidavit.
Officers obtained a search warrant and seized seven prescription bottles with miscellaneous pills in each bottle and Covington's cell phone, which showed that he had searched for the effects of the sleep aid 'Ambien,' the day after the reported sexual assault, according to the affidavit.
Covington was arrested Aug. 28 and was released on bond that evening, according to the Tulsa County jail website.
He's due in court Sept. 5.
