News On 6 Storm Tracker Video: Helicopter Crews Rescue Flood Victims

In the Beaumont area, rescue crews worked on the ground, in the water, and even in the air. 

Our News On 6 storm trackers were there as flood victims were flown to a drop-off location in Port Arthur. A near-continuous stream of military and rescue helicopters brought victims who had been plucked from rooftops.

The helicopters were from the Air National Guard and Coast Guard, storm tracker Darren Stephens said.

Beaumont and Port Arthur struggled with rising water as the area was pounded with what remained of the weakening storm, while Houston's fire department said it would begin a block-by-block search of thousands of flooded homes. Assistant Fire Chief Richard Mann said the searches were to ensure "no people were left behind."

White House homeland security adviser Tom Bossert said Thursday afternoon that the administration estimates about 100,000 homes were affected by the storm, with some filled with up to eight feet of water.
