Harvey Rescue Dogs Moving On From Tulsa Humane Society

The Humane Society of Tulsa says 120 dogs and cats rescued from Hurricane Harvey are being transported out of state. With help from the community and Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps volunteers, the animals were transferred from the emergency shelter in Bixby starting at 7:30 a.m. Monday, September 4.

The animals are part of 300 rescued last week. They are being flown in two different planes by Wings of Rescue flights to Illinois and Wisconsin.

"Tulsa specifically is serving as a hub station for the animals to come from Houston to here, be evaluated, get a chance to rest, get matched up to another organization in another state," said Gina Gardner, Humane Society of Tulsa president.

They will find their forever homes in those states, a Humane Society spokesperson said.
