Thousands of volunteers are spread out around the area right now, taking part in United Way's Day of Caring.

There are 400 volunteer projects for Tulsa's United Way Day of Caring.

At the Tulsa Boy's Home, volunteers are cleaning brush from a pond island that serves as a getaway for some of the kids there.

QuikTrip employees are among many of the volunteers; they're working on about a dozen projects at the Boy's Home - like repairs around the pool and tennis court.

About 5,000 volunteers are spread out across the Tulsa metro. The majority of volunteers work for local companies.

"I think it's a great example of who we are as a community. People coming together, reaching out, going beyond themselves," said Tulsa United Way CEO Mark Graham.

Graham said the value of the 400 projects is about $1 million, but because of volunteers, they're being done for free.

"This is just a great way to come together as a team. All of our employees get together and just really help our community,” said BOK volunteer, Ark Karl.

Before heading out for their day of work, many volunteers fueled up with a hearty breakfast and music at the Tulsa City-County Library Courtyard.

The volunteers said they are excited to get hands on to give back.

“Actually taking a day out of your busy schedule, get in there a just help out the community - doing yard work, helping with kids, teaching, doing whatever is needed is great,” said Helmerich & Payne volunteer, Jeremy Ambrose.

For QuikTrip, it's actually two 'Days of Caring.' The company will have employee volunteers back at the Tulsa Boys Home to finish up projects next Friday.
