A troupe of Osage Nation firefighters is heading to Montana to help fight the wildfires that have been raging there for months.

Osage Nation firefighter Britton Redeagle said this isn't his first trip to the fire ravaged area, and he'll keep going back if he has to.

Montana has been dealing with a wide spread drought.

That combined with the fires and high winds, the flames just won't stop.

At this point, the entire state is at risk.

If not from the fire risk, the risk of all of the smoke that’s in the air.

Thousands of acres of land have burned.

The Osage Nation was recruited by the Flat Head reservation in Montana to help out.

Redeagle said during the winter months when wild fires spark up most often in Oklahoma the Flat Head reservation sends members of their team here.

"In Oklahoma, it's real flat but there they have mountains and it's real steep and they have big trees so it's harder to contain the fires, the fires last a lot longer in the mountains," Redeagle said.

Redeagle and his fellow Osage Nation fire fighters fly out Sunday morning for what's being called a historic fire.

They'll be working 16-hour shifts or more the entire time they are there.
