Construction is officially underway on Owasso's new Public Safety Center.

City leaders broke ground on the $11 million project Friday near 116th Street North, between Garnett and 129th East Avenue.

Owasso Mayor Lynndell Dunn said the center will help firefighters salvage more homes.

"We needed a new fire station here to get our response times to emergency situations in line with what is expected by the community," Dunn said.

It will also serve as a state-of-the-art training facility for not only firefighters, but also police and public works.
