The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Big Cabin man is dead after he was struck Monday evening by a Union Pacific locomotive in Craig County.

He is identified as 35-year-old Phillip McCoy.

The OHP says it happened at 8:20 p.m. on railroad tracks near Highway 69 just east of Big Cabin.

In their report, troopers said the train was headed south when McCoy stepped onto the tracks.

"It's not required to blow the whistle for just running in that area of the tracks, but it's coming up on the crossing, so I'm sure it's getting ready to blow the whistle, but there's lights on the train," said OHP Trooper Ben Bertram.

He says the train stopped about a half mile down the tracks.

The OHP says their investigation as well as an investigation by Union Pacific Police continues.
