The Luck of the Irish is with us for St. Patrick’s Day! We’re in for some great holiday weather across Green Country.

We won’t have a repeat of the near 80 degree readings we had to wrap up the work week, but it will still be quite pleasant nonetheless this St. Patrick’s Day! We’ll see highs in the mid to upper 60s this afternoon with mostly sunny skies becoming partly cloudy as clouds steadily increase during the day.

Winds will also be lighter today, helping to curb our recent extreme fire danger. North winds could still gust to 15 to 20 miles per hour at times through early afternoon, but will slowly relax during the late afternoon and evening hours.

We’ll stay dry for any of your holiday Saturday plans, but rain chances are returning on Sunday. A few isolated showers will be possible Sunday morning, but the much better chance of rain comes Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening with scattered storms likely.

A few storms Sunday afternoon into Sunday night could be strong to severe with quarter size hail and very strong wind gusts possible. As always, we’ll keep you advised!

Spring break week here in Green Country will be getting off to a bit of a chilly start! Temperatures will approach the low 60s Monday afternoon but are likely to fall fairly sharply late in the day with gusty northwest winds behind a cold front. Spring officially “begins” on Tuesday, but it won’t really feel like it with lows in the 30s and highs only in the 50s on Tuesday!

That chilly air will be fairly short-lived though as a steady warm-up returns by mid to late next week. We should be climbing back to the 70s by the end of next week with another potential storm system on the horizon by next weekend.

I hope you have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day! Have fun and please be safe! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @StephenNehrenz as well as my Facebook page Meteorologist Stephen Nehrenz to stay up to date with the very latest!
