One bright spot of the teacher walkout is how communities are coming together to support students and parents with pop-up daycares and meals.

In Claremore, Operation Lunchbox is helping feed hungry kids.

"Basically, it's an operation to mobilize Rogers County to feed Rogers County students during the school closures," Pastor John Ray said.

At First Methodist, they’re using a big kitchen, and a group called Mercy Chefs has two mobile kitchens they're using too.

"Mercy Chefs is preparing hot hand-crafted chef meals to send out to all locations in Rogers County," Gary LeBlanc said.

The churches that agreed to be distribution sites send volunteers to pick up their meals, then, more volunteers there assemble them.

When the meals are assembled, they take them down to where the kids are.

The Ministerial Alliance estimates they'll prepare about 2,500 meals a day until school resumes.
