Police: Man Shot During Tulsa Carjacking Attempt
TULSA, Oklahoma - A man is recovering after Tulsa Police said he was shot in an attempted carjacking near 56th Street North and MLK.
Police responded to the scene just before 6:30 Thursday morning.
They said the victim was outside working on his truck when someone tried to steal it, then shot the victim multiple times in the upper chest.
By the time officers arrived, they said the shooter was already gone.
Police canvassed the neighborhood looking for anyone who could have seen or heard something, while crime scene detectives spend a couple of house collecting evidence.
Neighbors along 54th street were surprised to walk outside and see crime scene tape and to find out someone had been shot.
Erica Cox said her children were leaving for school when they saw the victim bleeding from a gunshot wound and told her.
“I came out, and my boyfriend comes out and he runs out and checks on him, and I’m just standing there like, ‘Did he really just get shot,’” Cox said.
The victim was taken to the hospital. Police said he is going to be okay.
