With just 12 days left before the runoff election, Republican gubernatorial candidate Mick Cornett (R) is hitting the campaign trail pretty hard Thursday.

"You know I've never run for statewide office before, so I have felt an obligation to meet people where they are. I don't think people should have to come hunt me down,” Cornett told Carter County Republicans.

Cornett said since he started his campaign a year ago, he’s logged some 60,000 miles getting his message out to Oklahomans. Thursday alone, he was in El Reno, Ardmore and Lawton.

"I'm an outsider to state government. And I certainly think I have the skillset to bring people together. Consensus building. Problem solving,” Cornett said. “And we gotta get some things done."

Those who attended Thursdays speeches seemed to like what the former Oklahoma City mayor had to say.

"I like him,” said voter Gary Wright El Reno. “He's very forthwith. He'll tell you the honest answer as he knows it anyway. You ask him a question he'll give you a direct answer."
