SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma - Just in time for the start of classes, Sand Springs schools now have some extra protection.

Sand Springs Police will now have a school resource officer working with the district.

About five years ago, budget problems forced the department to eliminate the position, but now, Officer Brian Barnett will help with school safety and work to build the relationship between police and students.

"He's going to meet with the kids and build relationships with the students, and teachers, and faculty, and be an asset for them," Captain Todd Enzbrenner said.

Barnett will split his time between the different schools.
