Several residents of the Waterstone Apartments spoke out a few weeks ago with claims they had no air conditioning in their apartments.

After publicly speaking out about the issue, one family was told they needed to leave, ending their month-to-month agreement.  Another family says they have been threatened with eviction.

Krystal Ivy and her family are now living at Yaletown Apartments.  Daniel Butts, his wife, and 4-year-old daughter are in a duplex.

“We didn’t know what we were going to do,” said Butts.  “We’re thankful for, you know, the people who came to help.”

After he was told to leave his apartment, several rental property owners who saw his story came forward to help Butts and his family.

“Our biggest concern was our daughter because it was uprooting her from what she’s known as her home for two and a half years,” said Butts.

He says she is settling in well, even celebrating her first birthday in her new home.

Another important thing the family is celebrating is the air conditioning.

“It’s amazing.  That’s all I can say, it works,” said Miranda Akin.  “I set it at 73 and I’m freezing.  Yeah, it’s been a good change.”

Just a few miles away, Krystal Ivy is settling into her new place too.

“We moved in on the first of the month,” said Ivy.

The property manager waived all fees to get Ivy, her fiancé, and two children moved in.

Ivy is grateful to be in a new place.

She says if they had stayed at Waterstone, “we might have lost our kids in one way, shape, form, or fashion.  With the heat and the respiratory issues, it could have killed them.”

Ivy says she was recently diagnosed with cancer.  She says health issues, with the heat, was her biggest concern, sometimes even sitting in their car to cool off.

“Words can’t express my gratitude,” she said.

The property manager at Waterstone Apartments says that all A/C units are now working and anyone with an issue should call the main office.
