Time to head to the lake or pool!  We’re in for a steamy Sunday as a heat wave builds across Green Country.

Unlike the past few days, no rain is expected across eastern Oklahoma today other than a brief passing sprinkle or two.  Areas of morning clouds will give way to plenty of daytime sunshine.  Afternoon highs will surge back into the mid-90s, but with continued high humidity, those heat index values will surge over 105.  You know the drill:  Please take it easy with your outdoor activities!

With regards to the heat, it’s “rinse and repeat” to start the week.  A steady south breeze will keep us in the mid to upper 70s to start Monday, and once again we’ll see those afternoon highs surge into the mid-90s with heat index values again at or above 105.  Nearly identical conditions continue on Tuesday as heat index values will again climb to around the 105 degree range.

Our one hope to break up this building heat wave would be rain chances, and we do see a chance for some scattered storms by late Tuesday night and particularly Wednesday along a weak boundary.  This won’t provide us with a huge cool-down, but we should have enough scattered storms around on Wednesday to keep temperatures closer to the upper 80s or 90 as opposed to the mid to upper 90s.  Storm chances look to linger into Thursday as well.

That relief will be fairly short-lived though, as the heat looks to build again late next week with highs back in the mid-90s as we head into next weekend – Labor Day weekend!  It sure looks like it’ll feel like summer for the “unofficial” end of summer.
