Sapulpa Man Pleads Guilty To Utica Square Bank Robbery

A Sapulpa man has pleaded guilty to a bank robbery that led to a wild high-speed chase across Tulsa.

Mark Jones is accused of robbing the Commerce Bank located at Utica Square in Tulsa on July 6, 2018.

Bank employees say a man, later identified as Jones, walked in with a handgun and demanded cash.  He then drove off in a black Ford Expedition, police say.

Officers say they spotted the SUV near 23rd Street and Southwest Boulevard and a chase ensued.

They say Jones led law enforcement through the city, eventually ending up on Interstate 44 with Tulsa police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers in pursuit.

The chase was brought to an end when a trooper performed what OHP calls a “tactical vehicle intervention,” causing Jones to lose control of the SUV and roll over.

According to U.S. Attorney Trent Shores, Jones pleaded guilty Wednesday morning in federal court.

He says that, as part of the plea agreement, Jones will be sentenced to 90 months in prison, as well as forfeiting the weapon used in the robbery and making restitution to the bank.
