During the month of September, Tulsa Police say they will focus on speeding and other violations in school zones across the department's Riverside and Gilcrease divisions.

Police say officers will be randomly monitor active schools zones west of South Sheridan Road and north of East 11th Street.

The department says because of an increased number of children walking to and from schools, drivers are reminded to stay alert and heed all warning signs when approaching school zones.

Police says a citation issued for speeding in a school zone requires a court appearance with a fine of $500 and or up to 30 days in jail.  Adding no warnings will be given.
