The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has shut down a ramp and a street Tuesday as part of a bridge replacement project on 129th East Avenue over I-244.

The department says the eastbound off-ramp on I-244 along with the bridge itself over I-244 are closed.

The bridge and off-ramp closed Tuesday morning. ODOT said more closures are coming over the next few days.

ODOT said the current bridge over I-244 is "structurally deficient" so they're spending $5 million to replace it by next spring.

Crews closed the eastbound off-ramp at 129th East Avenue Tuesday morning, then they shut down the bridge a couple hours later. They'll also close I-244 in both directions at 129th East Avenue Friday evening through Sunday night at midnight.

The westbound on-ramp will stay open, but ODOT said drivers should look for more closures through the spring.

Kenna Mitchell with ODOT said the current bridge is too narrow to deal with the high amount of traffic in the area.

"With the space for drivers and for pedestrians crossing, again, it'll be a great improvement for this area," she said.

The department recommends for drivers to take Admiral or Pine to get around the closures.
