Results from an exclusive News On 6 poll show a constitutional amendment could be in the works.

State question 798 would be a constitutional amendment changing how we vote for governor and lieutenant governor.

Currently, the two candidates run separately, which can lead to having the state's top two leaders affiliated with opposite parties.

State Question 798 changes the system to put both offices on the same ticket, much like how we select the president and vice president.

If approved, starting in 2026, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor from the same party would run together on a single ticket and voters would cast one vote for their preferred ticket.

Our poll shows 42 percent support the change and 35 percent oppose it; 22-percent of those who responded said they don't know or had no opinion.

Pollster Bill Shapard said the numbers could change once voters learn more about the question.

“I do know that there are a lot of advocates out there who are for this. We’ve talked about how few people are interested in the lieutenant governor’s race and how some governors have not benefited from having a lieutenant governor of the same party that they can work with,” he said.

News On 6 also has also shared results for the governor, lieutenant governor, superintendent, and attorney general races.

Here are the results from the poll, minus the governor's race.
