Family Of Khalid Jabara Responds To Murderer's Death In Prison
TULSA, Oklahoma - A man convicted of a murdering his neighbor has died in prison. Stanley Majors was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole in February.
The family of Khalid Jabara says they feel relieved knowing that Stanley Majors is permanently out of their lives. Victoria Jabara says their former neighbor terrorized her family for years.
"We're still trying to deal with it as a family," said Victoria.
Majors was arrested for assault and battery with a deadly weapon after running over Victoria and Khalid's mother Haifa Jabara in 2015.
"She can hopefully sleep a little safer at night knowing this news," said Victoria.
Majors was released from jail on bond in May of 2016. The following August Majors shot and killed Khalid Jabara. A tragedy his sister says was preventable.
"We were scared, we knew something was going to happen if he didn't stay in jail," said Victoria. "We feel so betrayed by the system, we feel so betrayed by the human race."
That's why Khalid's family has been so involved with advocating for Marsy's Law in Oklahoma which gives victims of violent crimes the right to be kept in the loop about court proceedings.
"That would have been to our benefit if we would've known that Stanley Majors was being released on a $30,000 bond," said Victoria.
Victoria says her family will sleep better knowing Majors can't hurt them ever again but they'll continue honoring Khalid every way they can.
"We barely go to the cemetery because it's too difficult. So these are ways we can honor him," said Victoria.
The medical examiner has not yet released the cause of death for Majors.
