NASA Administrator and former U.S. Congressman Jim Bridenstine is coming to OU to celebrate what's being called one of the biggest accomplishments in the university's history.

The discussion that Bridenstine is leading is called the "Future of NASA in Earth and Space Sciences," and it comes on the heels of the announcement of the GeoCarb project, a huge contract that OU landed to study carbon gas from a satellite.

The dean of the OU College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences says it was Bridenstine's vision of using communication satellites for scientific observation that inspired them to put a GeoCarb tool into space.

They're attaching it to a communications satellite, and GeoCarb has the capability to create maps every day of the Western Hemisphere's carbon gas concentrations, and even the health of plants.

From space.

OU says the $161 million contract is the largest in the university's history.

Bridenstine will speak next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Meacham Auditorium. It's free, but you have to register.
