Henryetta Youth Wrestling Coach In Jail Accused Of Child Sexual Abuse
OKMULGEE COUNTY, Oklahoma - The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office says a youth wrestling coach from Henryetta is in jail accused of child sexual abuse.
They say 38-year-old Michael Olazabal was arrested Thursday and is being held in jail on one count of child sexual abuse. Investigators say they discovered evidence that Olazabal had been sexually assaulting a child under the age of 16.
A woman brought her daughter to the Safe Harbor Group.
"They called, and we went down there and spoke with them," said Investigator Aaron Swayze, OCSO. "And the mother advised me that her daughter disclosed to her earlier in the day that she had been getting inappropriately touched."
Court documents say the victim told her mother Olazabal was going into her room late at night and giving her NyQuil, saying it would help her sleep better. Swayze said the mother also told him there were signs of abuse showing up in the past few days.
"This young lady was doing stuff out of the norm and began questioning her about it, and she finally got the courage to say something," Swayze said.
Olazabal is being held on a $50,000 bond and his initial court appearance is on January 10th.
According to Dave Hutchings, the president of the Henryetta Knights Youth Wrestling Program, Olazabal was a volunteer coach. Hutchings said, however, that Olazabal will no longer be helping out with the program.
"Even though this particular incident has nothing to do with the wrestling program, there is concern because of his position that there may be other victims," Swayze said.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident, but they are still meeting with parents.
