It’s become a New Year’s tradition; beginning the year with a little temporary insanity.
It’s called the Polar Bear Plunge and 170 people signed up to jump into the icy water of the Lifetime Fitness outdoor pool Tuesday. There was a costume contest for those who are really into it.
“It’s a great way to start the new year, people have a blast,” said Chris Schnelle, the race director.
This is the ninth or tenth year for the event and there is a Polar Bear mascot and lifeguards. The event involves a little running, about a mile, and three dips in the water.
The second splashdown comes after a ride down one of two
water slides. The last jump into the water, in a bit of extra holiday cruelty, is
to retrieve your medal for finishing.
